Morley's Final Catalogue: Among our most local species, and persisting admirably. Rare at Beccles (Crf); Brandon (Tr. Norf. Nat. Soc. 1899, 540); and elsewhere found only at Bury St Edmunds, where Skepper discovered it in the sixties and Wratislaw knew it (Suff. Inst. iv, 1870, 220), Waller netted several in June 1898, Sparke took larvae not uncommonly in 1902 and our Members, De Worms and Doughty, found many specimens in May 1934-35 (Ent. lxviii, 81).
Recent Suffolk Status: Extinct. Last Suffolk record was in 2006. The main colony site at Bury St Edmunds was badly burnt by fire when the larvae would have been present. Attempts at re-establishment in the county have all failed.
Life history: Double-brooded. Larvae were said to be easy to find in the past at one of the Suffolk locations.
Identification: Streamer is more greyish in colour and Ruddy carpet is more reddish pink.
Habitat: Hedgerows and scrub areas.
