Recent Status: A species with two races, the southern feeding on oak and the northern on Myrica gale. A single county record only.
Life Style: The moth flies throughout summer and comes to light. The larvae spin two leaves flatly together and feed on the upper epidermis of the lower and lower epidermis of the upper leaf leaving all the veins intact. They pupate on the ground in a flimsy cocoon
Identification: The southern race of the moth has a yellowish brown colour with four rows of small double black spots from the thorax to two thirds. There is an angled pale fascia at three quarters and the terminal quarter has chequered margins. There are three diffuse alternately paler and darker patches along the costa. The species prefers younger oak. The larvae have a pale brown head and prothoracic plate and the pinacula are black, a character distinguishing it from Strophedra nitidana. More Info
