Morley's Final Catalogue: Local and uncommon with us. Copdock in September 1897 (Hkg); Glemham Magna (Bloomfield); Aldeburgh; one only at Monks Soham, sitting on widow-sill on 20 August 1919 (Mly); one only at Needham, on 5 August 1905 (Platten); Stowmarket. Also found in the Breck district, the larvae in plenty feeding in old comb in bee-hives (Barrett); Bury.

Recent Status: The moth has a worldwide distribution and is well recorded across Suffolk.

Life Style: The moth has a long flight period and could be double brooded. It flies at night coming to light and to sugar. The larvae feed mainly on old bee combs. The larvae overwinter and feed from silken galleries.

Identification: A very distinctive moth unlikely to be confused with any other species.
