Celypha rufana

(Scopoli, 1763)1065 / 49.160

Morley's Final Catalogue: Not listed.

Recent Status: Recorded as an immigrant species. Could be establishing resident populations in the county with more regular records in recent years.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies in summer. It flies by day and night and comes to light. The larvae feed on fresh, withered and decaying leaves of Fragaria vesca, Potentilia sterilis, Pilosella officinarum, Senecio jacobaea or Taraxacum.

Identification: There are several colour forms of this species. Some are similar to C. rosaceana. C. rosaceana has an overall pink colour including the cilia. The colouring is generally darker towards the head with a brown or grey colour. The wing markings are even across the wing. C. rufana markings show some coalescence resulting in short fasciae particularly from the dorsum. C. rufana does not change colour towards the head. More Info
