Eudonia pallida

(Curtis, 1827)1336 / 63.075

Morley's Final Catalogue: Broad spread, but somewhat local in marshes during July. At Ipswich electric light (Pyett); Felixstow in 1902 (Gibbs); Southwold, and abundant in Aldeburgh salt-marshes (Ctw); Lowestoft (Bd); Beccles (Crf); Fritton Lake, at light, 1935-7 (Mly). Brandon (Barrett).

Recent Status: The species is recorded across the county but more particularly near the coast. The species is reportedly found in two seemingly disparate habitats; wetland and coastal sand dunes.

Life Style: A double brooded species flying from May to October. The larvae feed on mosses. Larvae pass the winter.

Identification: The Scopariinae (Scoparia and Eudonia) can be difficult to identify. Some species are easier than others. Before considering wing markings it is important to note the size, the shape when at rest and the forewing shape. All forewing markings can be important but of particular importance are the white sub-terminal markings, the post median line and the stigmata. They possess orbicular, claviform and reniform stigmata. Worn individuals might not be identified except by genitalia dissection.
Eudonia pallida is a small scopariid with a narrow but distinctly triangular shape at rest. An easily recognised species that, as the names suggest, is a pallid species with only the terminal dark dots and the stigmata, also often reduced to dots, readily noticed.

Recorded in 44 (76%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1902.
Last Recorded in 2026.
