Morley's Final Catalogue: A very local species, amongst alder in August. Lowestoft (EMM. 1888, p. 187) and Fritton (Boyd); Barnby Broad in 1908 and Shipmeadow marshes in cop. during August 1935 (Morley).

Recent Status: Rare in Suffolk.

Life Style: A single brooded species that flies in sunshine during July and August. It is reported that it can be found by beating Alnus branches over a net or sheet. The larvae feed in buds of Alnus.

Identification: The moth has an orange head tuft and white scape. The antennae are white tipped. The wings are a glossy shade of brown with metallic reflections of golden, red and or purple. There are two opposing strong golden spots at two thirds. The moth appearance and habits should allow the identification. Otherwise genitalia dissection may be necessary. More Info
