Morley's Final Catalogue: Far from uncommon locally in Hemley salterns about 1933 (Wir, Rait-Smith, Metcalfe, &c.); Hollesley and Orford in 1932-4 (Whit.); swept from reeds at Easton Broad on 30 May 1905 (Mly).

Recent Status: Last recorded in the county in 2009. Recent searches at the last known location and other saltmarsh sites have all been negative.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying in May and June. The apterous female also lacks legs and antennae and remains in the larval case where the eggs are laid after mating. The male flies by day but also comes to light. The larvae feed on Puccinellia maritima and other salt-marsh grasses.

Identification: The adult male is small with pectinate antenna and a white wing reticulate grey with the transverse lines stronger. The termen is spotted. A rounded winged moth with the fore- and hindwings of similar appearance.
The larvae feed from a silken case with narrow grass pieces affixed for their whole length and projecting some 3 mm posteriorly at maturity. The case reaches 5 to 6 mm in length at maturity in late spring. The larvae hibernate when young. More Info
