Phyllonorycter lantanella

(Schrank, 1802)331 / 15.051

Morley's Final Catalogue: Not listed.

Recent Status: A scarce species in Britain with few Suffolk records.

Life Style: A double brooded species that can be recorded in April, May, July and August. The larvae feed on Viburnum lantana, V. opulus and V. tinus. They pupate in the larval habitation in a silk lines part rather than a discrete cocoon. The larval stage over-winters.

Identification: The moth has the classic Phyllonorycter markings. It is not easily identified on superficial appearance being similar to P. cerasicolella/spinicolella and P. blancardella/hostis. The larval stage is the best choice for recording the species. The blister blotch is on the underside of a leaf between veins, or more extensive, and results in considerable distortion. More Info
