Morley's Final Catalogue: Not a rare species, in Carex. Much overlooked; beaten trees at Foxhall in July (Mly), Hemley in 1930 (Whit), Leiston (Grey).

Recent Status: No recent Suffolk records.

Life Style: A single brooded species flying during June, July and August. The larvae mine leaves of Carex and Luzula species. They hibernate in the mine and leave it to pupate. The pupa is supported by a silken girdle.

Identification: The moth has black wings with light golden markings. There is a spot at the base of the dorsum, a broad fascia at one half, a tornal spot and one opposite on the costa. These two spots may be joined by a section displaced towards the termen resulting in an angled fascia. The head and thorax are predominantly metallic grey. There is no similar species in Suffolk.
The larvae mine from near the leaf tip in a narrow gallery. Following hibernation the mine widens to become a blotch. The pale larva has a dark brown head and black prothoracic plate. More Info
