Morley's Final Catalogue: A common sallow-feeder; ' Suffolk' (Steph. Illust. 1834, p. 201) but little noted since 1890, when it was known from Leiston (Grey) and Homersfield (Ctw). Herringfleet marshes in April.

Recent Status: A common species where Salix species grow in Suffolk.

Life Style: Single brooded and hibernates. The moth is night flying and comes to light. The larvae feed from a spun shoot or rolled leaf on Salix species. It pupates on the ground.

Identification: The moth is a pale colour with variable dark spotting and shading it has a basal dash and spotted termen. It is characteristically marked by the Agonopterix twin spots that are often joined into a curved black marked and red backed, there is a red mark beyond and a dark suffuse central spot. Beyond this is a pale spot surrounded by red scales, the ‘ocellus'. There is no similar Suffolk species.
