Recent Status: A rare species found on Suffolk salt-marsh.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying from May to July. The larvae mine leaves of Bolboschoenus maritimus. The larvae hibernate and may re-commence mining or pupate in the spring.

Identification: The moth is similar to a number of Monochroa and a record should be supported by genitalia dissection. MBGBI should be referred to for this purpose. The larvae of Elachista scirpi, present coastally in Suffolk, also mines leaves of B. maritimus. Monochroa suffusella, with a similar adult moth, also occurs on the Suffolk coast and has also been suggested as feeding on B. maritumus since the regular foodplant for this species does not grow in Suffolk.
