(Olivier, 1789)749 / 35.034

Morley's Final Catalogue: An introduction, on stored wheat, &c. A specimen found in Ipswich on 23 July 1898 (Pyett).

Recent Status: The species was taken in Gorleston 28 June 2023. Thought to have originated from Bird Seed.

Life Style: An adventive species that feeds as a larva inside a cereal grain. It may appear in warehouses and packages of food. The eggs are laid on the surface of a grain. The larvae bore into the grain and completes its feeding and pupation within a grain emerging as the adult moth. There are some instances where they feed on grain that is too small to live inside. In these cases they spin a tubular web system to move between feeding locations.
