Recent Status: The primarily coastal distribution follows that of the principal larval foodplant.

Life Style: The moth is single brooded flying during June, July and August. The larvae feed on the seeds of Althaea officinalis but can also be common on Alcea rosea in gardens and will feed on Malva moschata seeds. They hibernate fully fed in a cocoon in which they pupate. This is usually within the seed heads of the foodplant.

Identification: The moth is a larger Gelechiid. The forewings are a shade of brown marked darker. There are usually two spots centrally at one third, a broad fascia at two thirds and a darker termen. The extent and intensity of the markings varies.
